OSS Assurance Expert · Vodafone · Lisbon, Portugal

17+ years in telecom operations. Now focused on OSS assurance.

I work on the systems behind OSS assurance at Vodafone. Much of my work starts with understanding why something failed across an application, database or VM and ends with a fix, clearer documentation or automation that helps prevent the problem or makes recovery faster. Before moving into OSS assurance, I spent more than a decade in Vodafone’s Atlantic NOC, supporting Vodafone UK operations and Vodafone Spain’s 2G–5G RAN from Portugal.

What I do

How I approach operational work.

I like to understand how systems work, follow problems across layers and leave the operation in a better state through documentation, permanent fixes or automation.

01

Problem solving across the OSS stack

I trace incidents across applications, databases and VMs, then develop permanent fixes for recurring faults.

02

Checks and recovery automation

I built role-specific Netcool pre-checks and a database-session recovery script, alongside Ansible automation.

03

Operational data for day-to-day decisions

I bring scattered information together so teams can plan work, assign tickets and use the resulting metrics.

04

Knowledge and processes for an in-house operation

I document how services are configured, define support processes and keep procedures current as the operation develops.

Professional case studies

Tools for energy use, ticket assignment and RAN planning.

I built these tools to solve recurring problems in the teams where I worked. The source code, data and internal architecture are not public.

€250k+annual savings

I reduced energy use in Vodafone Spain’s RAN.

While supporting Vodafone Spain’s RAN from the Atlantic NOC, I designed, developed and implemented the Python and ISSTAR automation. I also coordinated the team resources and planned and executed the production change requests (CRQs) needed for rollout.

Automated BMC Remedy ticket assignment for my team.

I built a Python workflow that read our daily Excel roster, assigned tickets to available team members, sent email alerts for higher-priority tickets and recorded ticket metrics.

Combined Vodafone UK RAN data in one planning portal.

I built a PHP, Python and Huawei HSL portal that combined several Vodafone UK RAN data sources used by our team to prepare network projects.

Career progression

From network monitoring to OSS assurance.

I progressed from first-line monitoring to second-line analysis, team coordination and RAN operations before moving into OSS assurance in July 2025.

OSS Assurance ExpertVodafone · Full-time

I joined the operation as it was being brought in-house. This involved learning how the platforms were configured, documenting the knowledge needed by the team and helping define the support processes. Today, I investigate issues across Netcool, Infovista, FNT, Cramer and Checkmk, their databases and more than 50 VMs.

BaluLabs · Personal environment

A lab for running, monitoring and recovering services.

I use BaluLabs to practise the operational work around services: deployment, access, monitoring, updates, documentation, backups and recovery.

It runs in my personal Proxmox environment. I keep the live topology and configuration private.

Opportunities

Open to senior roles in OSS assurance and technical operations.

I am also interested in operational automation and adjacent platform roles where my experience is useful, while I continue developing my Kubernetes and cloud-native skills.
